Job seekers reach six month milestone – National Indigenous Times

By March 4, 2015October 19th, 2021No Comments

Government employment service provider, Jobfind, in partnership with the David Liddiard Group, recruited the participants for the program, in collaboration with other employment service providers, across Sydney and the Central Coast.

The majority of the job seekers had been struggling to find work because of their limited job skills and work experience, coupled with barriers they had previously faced such as domestic violence, alcohol abuse, and a lack of language and literacy skills.

David Liddiard, former professional footballer and Founder of the David Liddiard Group, shared: “The myriad of issues that comprise the physical, financial and emotional barriers for many Aboriginal people seeking to enter the workforce needs a structured and consistent approach from Aboriginal mentors who are there to give advice and implement practical solutions so that work can become the focus.

The real success of this program, in terms of retention, is definitely the result of the intensive pre-employment program and the 24/7 mentoring that assists each recruit to meet and overcome the challenges that prevent full attendance and engagement on a daily basis.”

David Liddiard Group specialise in tailoring Indigenous recruitment and employment programs across Australia. In partnership with organisations, such as Pindarri and William Angliss Institute Sydney, these programs facilitate job skills training and life skills training in conjunction with mentoring support that lead to sustainable employment outcomes for Indigenous Australians.

The event will also feature a display from the Angus Knight’s Confidence by Art project, comprising a collection of winning artworks from Jobfind’s calendar art competition. The project fosters communication, confidence and self-expression with the aim of more engaged job seekers, who are more confident and successful when applying for jobs. The artworks are interpretations of this year’s theme ‘Window of opportunity’.
