Rachael’s Story

Rachael is a jobseeker connected with the Cragieburn Jobfind centre. She transferred to Jobfind from another employment service provider.

Rachael had been looking for a job for a while. When Employment Consultant Helen Andaras started working with her, she had lost all hope. Then Helen suggested a PaTH internship with Hungry Jacks, Cragieburn.

Helen says Rachael was hesitant at first but gave it a go.

“I assisted with work clothing and transport assistance via the Employment Fund. And, after four successful weeks of completion in the internship, Hungry Jacks offered Rachael a permanent job.”

Rachael is currently undergoing a Cert III in Hospitality as part of her training towards becoming a Manager/Team Leader. She is now enjoying her new job at Hungry Jacks and is thankful to the Jobfind team for assisting her with her new job.

Josh’s Story

Josh was recovering from a workplace injury when Employment Consultant, Sumandeep Kaur, spoke to him about the PaTH internship program.

Josh already had hospitality experience, and he was interested in restarting his career in that area. He had a positive attitude and was ready to go for any role and flexible in his availability and workplace. He is a lovely young man who lives with his grandmother, taking care of her as well.

During COVID, with limited job opportunities in hospitality, it was difficult for him to start a job. Sumandeep suggested doing a PaTH internship as a way of getting back into work. Josh was interested, and Sumandeep set up an interview with the Flinder’s Street branch of Lord of the Fries.

Sumandeep says Josh is a lovely young man who lives with his grandmother, taking care of her as well. She is ecstatic Josh took advantage of the opportunity to complete a PaTH internship.

“Josh went well at the interview for the internship and was offered a position. I assisted him in getting appropriate clothing via the Employment Fund. He enjoyed the internship, and the employer liked him as well and offered him part-time employment.”

Josh is currently happily working a minimum of 25 hours per week.

About PaTH Internships

PaTH Internships are short placements in the workplace that give young people an opportunity to demonstrate their skills to a potential employer, develop vocational skills and improve their employment prospects. At the same time, employers have the opportunity to trial young job seekers in a structured work experience placement, to see if they are the right fit for their business.

PaTH Internships are voluntary, and run for 30 to 50 hours per fortnight, over four to 12 weeks. Interns do not receive payment from the employer during this time. Still, they can continue to receive their normal income support payment and are also eligible for an additional fortnightly incentive payment of $200.
